Why did Jesus spend an entire night in prayer before choosing twelve ordinary men to be His apostles? In Luke 6:12–19, Jesus begins forming a new community of people who have been made new by His power and called to live in a radically different way. Just as God delivered Israel, formed them into a people, and taught them how to live, Jesus is gathering a people from every background and inviting ordinary men and women into His extraordinary mission. This message challenges us to depend on God in prayer, find new life in Christ, embrace our place in His church, and join Jesus in His continuing work of building His people throughout the world.
